Gladiator Power Shake

Cups of pink smoothies with strawberries and blueberries

When I was first diagnosed with a brain tumor, I met with my neurosurgeon to discuss surgery to remove the tumor. During my appointment, I asked if there was anything special I should do to prepare for the surgery. He suggested that I should eat lots of healthy “brain food” such as protein, dark leafy greens, and berries. Just the kind of things you find in a great smoothie! From then on, I started making this recipe almost every day. It’s a filling meal and it helps me feel strong to fight like a gladiator.

Other flavors of protein powder may be substituted to your preference. I’ve tried using frozen spinach instead of fresh, but I prefer the taste and texture of fresh spinach.

Enjoy! -Eric

Gladiator Power Shake Recipe

Makes 1 serving (approximately 32 oz.)

Ingredients:

  • 1.25 cups water

  • 1 scoop strawberry protein powder

  • 1/2 medium banana

  • 1/2 medium avocado

  • 1 Tbsp kale powder

  • 1 Tbsp MCT oil

  • 1 oz. fresh spinach (approximately 1 large handful)

  • 6 oz. frozen strawberries

  • 4 oz. frozen mixed berries (such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)

Add all items to blender in the order listed above, as the weight of the frozen berries will ensure the spinach is drawn down towards the blades. Blend on high for one minute or until smooth. Add ice or water and blend more as necessary to achieve desired texture.
